Welcome to Lord of Life! We worship on Sundays at 8 a.m. at 10:30 a.m. Summer schedule Memorial Day through Labor Day worship is Saturday evening 5:30 a.m. and Sunday morning 9 a.m.
Lots of people worry about what to wear to church nowadays. Relax! People attend Lord of Life in everything from jeans and a t-shirt to shirt and tie. Wear what you are accustomed to. It’s not necessary to bring anything along to church.
Getting to Church
Lord of Life is located at 2899 Hales Mill Rd, Dubuque, IA 52002. We are located less than half a mile north of Asbury Road on Hales Mill Road.
When you arrive, park in any of the parking spaces in the church’s lot. We often have a full lot, so you can park along Springreen Dr. too. If you come in the upstairs door, the sanctuary is on your left. If you enter at the downstairs door, you’ll need to take the stairs to your left to get to the sanctuary. Feel free to leave your coat or umbrella at the coatracks. You’ll be greeted at the door to the sanctuary by an usher; if you have any questions or special needs, they are happy to help. After taking a bulletin, have a seat anywhere you like.
What to Expect
The bulletin you receive at the door to the sanctuary has everything you need to participate in worship. We follow the red hymnal you’ll find in the pews, Evangelical Lutheran Worship, and the bulletin will list page numbers for the service as well as hymn numbers. The scripture readings are also included in the bulletin for your convenience. We also project much of the liturgy and the hymns if you prefer not to find your way through the hymnal. Our worship follows a weekly pattern of Gathering, Scripture Reading, a Sermon, Holy Communion, and a Sending. Everyone is welcome to receive Holy Communion – grape juice (light colored) is available in the center of the trays, and wine is on the outside. A common cup is also available.
Children and Worship
Children are welcome in our services. An age-appropriate children’s bulletin is available from the ushers. Often the Pastor will invite the children to come up to the front of the sanctuary for a children’s sermon, too. A nursery is available just outside the sanctuary doors.
