Home Youth

This past weekend we had our Youth Sunday and I spoke about what our congregations “talents” are. I made the agreement that our “talents” are the younger generations we have at the church. What the congregation did not hear was the Sr. High Sunday School discussion after words.

I asked the youth what they thought their “talents” are and then followed up with “Are you burying them in the ground or are you using them?” Some of them said yes and some said no about the second question, so we talked about what can we do to use them.

I came up with some suggestions, but on the whole the group came up with some pretty good ideas. They want to help out people who need help around the house because they just physically can’t do it anymore. So if you need help shoveling your driveway this winter or raking up all those leaves in the yard email me and I will see what I can do. They also gave answers like help out in worship more often (at least those who are comfortable doing that) and going to nursing homes to volunteer.

Once again the youth have brought a smile to my face when presented with a challenge. So now I am asking you: How can you use your “talent” this month?

National Youth Gathering meeting on December 14th after service. This meeting is very important to be at with your child(ren) who are going on the trip. Please plan on the meeting lasting 30 minutes.

I will be out of the country for much of January for class. Luckily, I will be spending time in Taize France and then heading to Geneva. It will be a good experiancetial learning    opportunity for me, hopefully with some insights to bring back to Dubuque. If you need to get a hold of me please email me, but know that it might be a few days before you get a response.    -Jason

Youth

Welcome to the Lord of Life Youth Group.

We meet twice a week, on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 and on Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 10:15.  On Wednesday nights we have a relaxed time where the youth just hang out and talk or play games.  Once a month we cook and eat dinner together.

Mission Statement

The mission statement for the youth group is GATHER, GROW, GIVE, GO. We GATHER in grace, GROW in faith, GIVE of ourselves, and GO serve God.  Everything that we do has some connection ot those four "G's".  Some examples of that are:  helping with Advent and Lent meals, 30 hour famine, mystery camps, ELCA National Youth Gathering and Youth Sundays.
